The new E(o)vil Dead, or more post-Ft13 dreck?
If there's one thing that unites the house like a hub of disparate spokes, it's Sam Raimi. From those of us who defined their adolescence by an appreciation for Ash's chainsaw hand replacement, to those who only tuned in once he started autering the second most famous red and blue American icon, there's a quirky place in all 6 of
our hearts for Sam. So now he heads back to his roots and all are left to wonder at the outcome. Pretzelknot and Nasty J will be sitting this one out, on principle of "it scary me!" certain 80 hr work week schedules aside. And just as around 50 minutes into Evil Dead 2, we are left with four. Personally, I 'm most nervous that Raimi may have lost that "I'm just kidding - not really - of course I'm kidding," sentiment. We expect him to be silly now, and the pressure could force him to be overly self-conscious in the horror genre. I worry that without that almost pre-teen earnestness, it's gonna either rise into simple B-horror boredom or descend into satirical boredom. Can he tread the line, or should I just allow myself to be exponentially more excited about this movie?
